Mrs. Hattie Louise (Barnett) Brown was born on June 25, 1932 to Mr. Sam Barnett and Lillie B. (Clay) Barnett in Brooksville, Mississippi. 

 

Mrs. Hattie Brown was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jim Brown; four children, Mary Louise Henderson, Johnel Brown, Jesse Brown and Charles Brown; five sisters, Sophia Sims, Aretha O'Neal, Luvenia Williams, Lillie Belle Ervin and Lucinda Chandler; two brothers, Johnel Barnett and McArthur Barnett.

 

At an early age, she professed her faith in Christ and was baptized at the Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Macon, Mississippi.

 

Mrs. Hattie received her formal education in Brooksville, Mississippi.  In 1945, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Jim Brown of Brooksville, Mississippi.  To their union, twelve children were born. 

 

In 1956, Mr. and Mrs. Brown and family moved to East St. Louis, Illinois.  In 1962, Mrs. Hattie moved to Centreville, Illinois where she lived until her passing on March 20, 2009 at 3:42 p.m. in the Intensive Care Unit at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri.  She was seventy-six years of age.

 

Mrs. Hattie was employed by Christian Welfare Hospital in East St. Louis, Illinois for twelve years.  She also worked at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

 

She was known for her beautiful yard and the delicious cookies and ice cups she made for neighborhood children.   She will be sincerely missed.

 

Mrs. Hattie Louise Brown leaves to cherish her memory  eight children, Jimmie Brown of Granite City, IL, David (Helen) Brown of East St. Louis, IL, Bernice (Monroe) Brewster of Meridian, MS, Odesta Brown of Centreville, IL, Michael (Drucilla) Brown of East St. Louis, IL, William (Glenda) Brown of St. Louis, MO, Frederick Brown of St. Louis, MO and Marjorie (Rev. Timothy) Murray of San Diego, CA; one brother, L. A. Barnett of Brooksville, MS; one sister, Ozella Clay to Tupelo, MS; thirty grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; one elder cousin, Mary Lee Dunn of St. Louis, MO; three special friends, Helen Miller, Doreatha Eggleston and Joyce Hodges; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
